New PLN Tool

I think that TikTok   would be a cool new PLN tool to use. Although this is not a traditional tool, and some might think it is silly, there are so many connections that can be made with other teachers on TikTok. We are able to see how other teachers are successfully making lesson plans, classroom techniques, and teaching strategies that we might be able to implement in our own classrooms.

I have experienced a great deal of distant learning in my education journey. Covid hit in the middle of my senior year of high school, which was a devastating experience. Many of my classes dismissed the work we had due, but a few of them hosted Zoom sessions. These Zoom sessions mostly consisted of our teachers offering their support rather than scurrying to get our work in. When I got to FSU, everything was completely remote. The buildings were not fully open, and there were many rules on campus. We couldn’t even go into the common areas at our dorms to hang out with friends. At first, I hated distant learning. I felt like I wasn’t learning anything or getting the full college experience. After classes went back to in person, I realized that I was not acclimated to the college class environment. It was difficult for me to go to class, and I got antsy so easily. As a teacher, I will be sure to understand my students troubles and give breaks when needed, while making assignments a...

I enjoyed the Web Design assignment very much. Any assignment where I get to showcase my creativity no longer feels like homework. I learned how to create a usable website with links, lists, calendars, and visuals. I can use my new design skills to create a website for students and parents to use when I work in a school setting later on in life. Here is a link to my website ! To be completely honest, Diigo was a confusing site to me at first. I definitely had to utilize the tutorial videos to successfully use this website. However, I can see why it is beneficial. Though the design is. in my opinion, plain and outdated, I think the two most useful tools are groups and being able to annotate other sites and files. Diigo makes it easy to add your own notes to websites or articles without having to download them and use a separate application. It also is super convenient to be able to share work like links or articles with groups. As a teacher, this would be useful to see what other t...

Mrs. Folsom's teacher page     When researching teacher websites, I found what was expected: introductions about the teacher, important dates for the year, and documents or assignments. Some teachers include more information on their websites than others. I have included a screenshot of a teacher page with lots of information, but other teacher pages I visited only had a "meet the teacher" tab.      When I am a teacher, I will definitely be using technology to accomplish my responsibilities. First of all, for communication with students and parents, I will be sending out a visually pleasing newsletter each week with the assignments we will be working on, homework, important reminders, and any other information that parents should be aware of. I also want to send home behavioral and educational progress reports electronically to parents each month, so that if changes need to be made, parents are made aware. For my own personal success, I will download...

I have never used Diigo before. I only first heard about it for this class, so I never knew what it even was. I am still learning how to use it, so I do not have many likes or dislikes right now. However, I do like how you can join groups. This is very helpful in looking for relevant information.      I also have never used a blog before this class. In this class, I learned how to use a real blog site. I have made fake blog posts for assignments before, but it was only a paragraph or so per assignment, so I wouldn't classify it as a true blog. This blog is more real because I have to keep up with it, but it is only for class, which isn't something I would choose to blog about. If I could choose, I would blog about my experiences in college (the good and the bad), sort of like a big sister blog.      I would definitely use  YouTube  when teaching. There are so many informational videos on YouTube that also are fun in order t...
