EME Journal #5

I downloaded Twitter the summer before my freshman year of high school. I only got it because all of my friends had it, but I never really understood the point of Twitter. I would really only use it to wish people a happy birthday or look at funny posts. I forgot I even had Twitter until I took this class. I can use Twitter in my future career to interact with other teachers or join threads that talk about classroom strategies.

The digital divide is when some students do not have equal access to technology that other students do. This causes a lack of resources for those with little to no access to technology. They cannot easily search up articles or sources. They probably do not have a personal laptop or computer to do homework or write papers on. One main cause of the digital divide is low income. Areas that simply do not have enough money cannot pay for technological resources for students. Another cause is that people may have never learned to use technology, and therefore do not use it.

One software tool I would want to use in my future classroom would be Google Classroom. This is what I grew up using in school, and found it easy to keep track of all of my assignments. I also could set reminders so I knew what I had due and when. It is nice to be able to have each student's assignments and grades in one place as a teacher. Another tool I hope to use is Edpuzzle. This is a program where teachers can upload a video for students to learn from, but instead of only watching the video, students must answer questions all throughout the video. The teacher comes up with the questions and places them throughout the video wherever they deem necessary. I used this as a student in high school, and I loved it. It made learning fun and kept me engaged.
